MARGAO: An alert local resident on Wednesday shot a video of uncovered mouth of water tank, which was getting exposed to dirt and posted it on social media. Soon, the video went viral and the officials of Public Works Department (Water supply) were forced to take corrective action.
Leena Dias from Tallsanzor, Margao, who shot the video, did so as a last resort after her complaint to PWD officials about the uncovered mouth of water tank went unheeded. “The uncovered mouth of the water tank was exposing it to dust. This was contaminating the water, which is consumed by hundreds of citizens from Tallsanzor, Pajifond and Gogal,” Dias told O Heraldo.
She informed me that she had personally met the staff of the PWD office, besides filing a complaint.
“They just ignored my grievances. However, once I made a video of the pathetic situation and posted it on social media, which went viral, they immediately rushed to the site and covered the exposed part with tarpaulin sheet,” she said.

husband in his personal capacity repaired the broken pipeline that passed close
to her house, after PWD failed to act.
“We have spent thousands of rupees from our pocket, despite living on daily wages. The officials at the office kept on giving excuses that they are short of equipment and hence my husband took initiative to repair the pipeline,” she informed.
A senior citizen said that that the water from the tanker is used by hundreds of people for drinking and cooking and hence the government needs to focus on providing clean water.
“Who will take the responsibility if health issues are caused by consuming the contaminated water from the tank?” she asked.
Interestingly, many people have reacted to the video that went viral for the last two days and charged the PWD for not showing seriousness towards public related issues.
