PONDA: A vigilant youth Akshay Vadiar from Dharbandora on Sunday detected a hidden skimmer at an unguarded ATM kiosk in Usgao and informed the police, who seized the device immediately.
Akshay, who visited the ATM kiosk to withdraw cash, suddenly noticed the skimmer device only to find chips and memory card attached to ATM. He immediately informed the police, whose action prompted eight banks to stop operations at the unmanned ATM kiosks in Usgao on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Usgao and Dharbandora locals appreciated Akshay’s act of enlightening the banks, who they claimed are not bothered about the security of people’s hard-earned money.
According to Usgao locals, there are eight ATMs of different banks but despite online cash withdrawal complaints from locals, they are left unguarded and due to this, the money of several Usgao locals was fraudulently withdrawn during the past year.
It may be recalled that since past one year, unguarded ATM kiosks have become cause of concern for Usgao locals with fraudsters targeting these kiosks and withdrawing lakhs of rupees via skimming
