VASCO: Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Tuesday assured that all important beaches under Cortalim constituency would be equipped with basic tourist amenities like toilets and changing rooms shortly so that tourists do not face hardships while spending their leisure time on beaches under Cortalim constituency.
She was speaking to reporters after distributing saplings to the people of Cortalim constituency at her office in Upasnagar in Sancoale, on Tuesday.
“Cortalim constituency has several popular beaches, but they have no major touristic amenities. Hence, we have decided to provide basic facilities on these beaches such as changing rooms and a bathroom cum toilet facility as these are essential amenities given that Goa is a tourist destination,” Saldanha said.
On the proposed development at Velsao beach, Saldanha said, “Actually we have placed a proposal with reference to Velsao beach some two years ago. First and foremost, we want to provide illumination along the road leading to the beach. Then, we have proposed to beautify the road, provide changing rooms for gents and ladies besides other beautification works at the beach entrance like a beach circle for which the works are going on at war footing.”
“As far as the road works are concerned, the project is held up because we need land and we are hopeful that soon the land owners will cooperate with the government and will give a piece of their land for the project that would benefit Velsao village,” she said.
Meanwhile, Saldanha also assured that she would be taking up massive tree plantation drive alongside NH17 road from Cortalim to Kesarval in Verna as several trees had to be cut to undertake widening of NH17 road.
She said that in last one month she already distributed over 1500 saplings to the constituents and have also planted some 150-odd trees with the help of locals.
“We have to realize the importance of trees; we need to plant more and more trees. I understand that on account of necessary development sometimes we have to cut trees and in such situation, every tree that we cut should be replaced with at least five new saplings,” she said.
