VASCO: Promising to extend her support to the Sancoale panchayat on its stand against mega projects, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Monday said that Goa being too small has already exceeded its carrying capacity and one cannot have smart villages by creating concrete jungles.
It may be recalled that while opposing several upcoming and proposed mega projects in its panchayat jurisdiction, the Sancoale Panchayat had recently resolved to officially ask MLA Alina Saldanha, MPDA and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai to review all the multi-dwelling or mega projects proposed in the village and to revoke the licences issued to projects which are yet to start work at the sites.
“I appreciate the fact that Sancoale panchayat has become sensitive to the fact that the village has exceeded its carrying capacity. It is not about concrete jungles but the consequences for having concrete jungles in the area as there will be no land left for the next generation if we allow more mega projects. Certain measures have to be taken if we want to preserve Goa as per its reputation as paradise, otherwise very soon we will convert the paradise into hell,” Saldanha said.
She said, “Goa has already exceeded its carrying capacity.”
