VASCO: Alina Saldanha, MLA of Cortalim, and other government authorities carried out a site inspection of the controversial mini India park project on Friday morning. The site inspection was called by GCZMA based on the complaint made by the Quelossim panchayat regarding illegalities at the controversial Mini India Park project at Quelossim.
During inspection it came to light that the company has re-installed floating platforms, this time a much bigger number, and has resorted to massive land filling in the wetland area, widening of bandhs, cutting down of mangroves and other trees, all in gross violation of the environmental rules and regulations that govern wetlands, says a press release issued by MLA Saldanha.
Saldanha further said that the proponent had been ordered by GCZMA sometime in 2017 to open the sluice gates which he had closed previously and on inspection on Friday, it has been observed that out of the six sluice gates only two have been opened.
Commenting on the present scenario, Saldanha has said that ‘what is most astonishing is that the firm has no permissions whatsoever from any concerned authority as, even the in principle IPB permission was withdrawn in 2018 and yet he keeps on indulging in illegalities.’
“The representatives of the concerned authorities of the state of Goa present for the site inspection have taken note of all the illegalities observed and action will be taken shortly,” she added.
