Alina, Mauvin demand special status for Goa

Environment Minister Alina Saldanha Tuesday urged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to initiate steps towards attaining special status for Goa under section 371 of the Constitution of India.

PANJIM: Environment Minister Alina Saldanha Tuesday urged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to initiate steps towards attaining special status for Goa under section 371 of the Constitution of India.

 “I want to urge government to make all necessary efforts for (securing) special status for Goa,” she said.

Earlier, Congress MLA Mauvin Godinho also demanded for special status for Goa stating that it would help in preserving the state identity and will also keep a check on other activities. 

“I had been assured by Chief Minister he would lead a delegation to the Centre demanding special status for the State. But till date no steps have been initiated,” he observed.
