PANJIM: Strongly opposing plans for a marina in Sancoale, Environment Minister Alina Saldanha reiterated her stand on protecting the area, hinting at plans of turning the area into a heritage site.
“The area is an eco-sensitive area with khazan lands and there should be no development in the area at all. I too am against the coming of a marina on the same grounds. We are actually in the process of declaring it a heritage site,” Saldanha said, speaking on the sidelines of an event, Friday evening.
The Environment Minister added the wealth of the land needed to be conserved to help increase and preserve the area for locals.
In January this year, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) had decided against granting consent to proposals for setting up a marina project in Sancoale on the grounds of it being a “bio- sensitive zone.”
