VASCO: The results of Sancoale Panchayat elections announced on Sunday have underlined the fact that the ruling MLA Alina Saldanha has further tightened her grip on the panchayat.
Alina was elected as an MLA precisely due to high voting from Sancoale village and especially in Zuarinagar slums; and now the panel supported by Alina has managed to win seven out of eleven seats.
Happy with the poll results, Alina said that the mandate given by the Sancoale villagers has established that people have full faith in the BJP. She promised that she along with the new panchayat body would take up higher level of development in the village and the new body will give corruption free panchayat to the villagers.
“This is the victory of the candidates, because all those who participated and got elected today are people’s candidate as they were working for the welfare of people. Secondly, and most importantly, this is the victory of BJP government. This is the reward Sancoale village has given to the BJP government for all the developments the party has brought to the village, for all the schemes that it has delivered to the people,” she said.
“Along with the elected panchas and next the sarpanch, we will be working to take the village to a higher level of development,” she promised.
Commenting on the issues that have been plaguing Sancoale village, Saldanha assured that all efforts would be made to ensure that Sancoale becomes garbage and open defecation free soon.
She also said that the BJP’s promise of rehabilitation of Zuarinagar slums is being taken up and the party would soon come out with definite policy and then, the project for rehabilitation of Zuarinagar slums would kick start.
Newly elected Panch Girish Pillai, who is a top contender for the post of sarpanch, said, “Both the Dabolim and the Cortalim MLAs supported our panel and today we have got majority in the polls. We now want to assure the people that whatever promises were made by the BJP will be fulfilled in the next five years. Similarly, the promise of rehabilitation of Zuarinagar slums, making Zuarinagar open defecation free, besides, making whole of Sancoale garbage free is our top most priority.”
Further, “Zuarinagar area is thickly populated and people here need a sub health centre and we would strive hard to provide the same on priority,” he said.
