All arrangements made for supplying essential commodities in Mangor hill: Govt

A medical helpline and a helpline for food and groceries have been made operational; List of other measures for residents have been announced

panjim/VASCO: After Mangor Hill was declared as a containment zone, the State government has taken several steps in ward no XI and XVI to help the people living in these areas. 

The government, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said a medical helpline number has been made operational – 8767114825. 

A helpline for food and groceries has also been made operational – 8767103976

“The administration has taken over the supply of essential commodities on payment basis and the Horticulture Department has agreed to supply vegetables at Rs100, which is already pre-packed and will be handed over directly to the family. A box will be kept ready for the person to deposit the money,” the press release says. 

Further, it says, two places have been identified i.e. opposite the Gurudwara and the near Maruti Temple Arc. At these places, vegetables shall be supplied from 7.00 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.

“Permission has been granted to the milk van to supply milk daily in the containment zone at two places i.e. opposite the Gurudwara and near Maruti Temple Arc from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m,” it says.

However, locals have spoken about how there is no ATM in the area and that some of them have problems in withdrawing cash, an issue that they are hoping the authorities will address soon. 

Besides this, the government release says, arrangements have been made by the Municipality for the collection of garbage and the workers have also been trained and provided with safety gears.

The State has also provided face shields and other protective gear to the police personnel and other officers on duty in the containment zone.

Also, leaflets have been given to every household that has details about the precautions that need to be taken by the persons in the containment zone. It also has details on the restrictions, which have been imposed. 

It is to be noted that 202 swabs were collected from the residents in the containment zone on Tuesday, while 353 swabs were collected so far by Wednesday evening. The Health Department is continuing to collect more swabs on Wednesday as well. 

There is a total restriction on movement of vehicles and area has been completely barricaded
