PANJIM: All five accused booked by Pernem Police involved in attacking Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) SP of Goa have applied for anticipatory bail before fast track court at Mapusa.
The court heard the arguments and reserved its order for October 24. Opposing the anticipatory bails of all the accused, Pernem police have sought their custody to identify the other unknown people from the mob who attacked the NCB raiding team.
It may be recalled that, following a complaint by Jeetendra Ranjan, the superintendent of police of NCB-Goa, Pernem police have registered an FIR against Narayan from Himachal, Pieadad Rodrigues from Arambol, Vasco Rodrigues (Arambol), Himalraj Singh (Nepal) and Caridad alias Babush of Mapusa.
All the five and a mob of 25-30 unknown persons have been charged under Sections 143, 147, 148, 332, 341, 353, 356, 504 r/w149 of Indian Penal Code.
It may further be also recalled that an NCB team led by Ranjan along with Mapusa Police staff raided a shack in Arambol for narcotics. But following heated arguments between the NCB SP and the shack operator, there was a scuffle.
Thinking that tourists were attacking the shack owner, some locals rushed to the spot and assaulted Ranjan, as he did not disclose his identity, as per the eye witnesses.
North Goa Superintendent of Police on Thursday suspended duty master of Mapusa Police Station after finding procedural lapse in deputing the staff for said raid in Arambol that has been carried out in the jurisdiction of Pernem police.
