CANACONA: As per the information provided by the Returning Officer (RO) of Canacona, with all formalities done his team is ready for the election to the 7 panchayat’s of Canacona.
Speaking to the reporters on the preparations of elections for the 7 panchayats of Canacona Taluka the RO, Ramesh Gaonkar highlighted the preparedness of all the election related matters and said he and his team were fully geared to conduct the panchayat elections successfully and peacefully in the Taluka.
Canacona Taluka has a total of 7 panchayats with 57 wards and with results in 4 wards declaredelections will be held for 53 wards on 11th of June. A total of 25623 voters from the Taluka with female voters outnumbering males will cast their votes to elect their representative for the next five years in their respective wards.
Loliem-Polem with 4115 voters of which 2163 are females and 1952 are male voters has 9 wards. Ward number 1 and 4 are already declared unopposed. Incidentally all polling stations of this panchayat are declared sensitive, but if one looks at the past records of this village nothing has been reported which can mark this village as sensitive. There is a strong undercurrent in the village against the outgoing ruling panchayat and while going to the press there were 8 villagers from this village who were called by the deputy collector to sign a bond that they would not breach the peace in the locality which they termed as harassment for opposing the IIT project at Loliem.
Neighbouring village of Poinguinim has a total of 5143 voters out of which 2633 are female and 2510 are male voters, it has a total of 9 wards and ward No. 4 is declared won unopposed.
