All hopes rest on plasma therapy; death toll hits 56

Three deaths, 286 cases, 208 recoveries on single day

PANJIM: The COVID-19 pandemic shows no signs of subsiding as the State registered three more casualties on Monday, which also saw 286 new positive cases added along with 208 recoveries.

With Monday’s figures the State’s death toll has now reached 56.  The active cases are now 1884, while 6816 are confirmed with 4876 recoveries. 

As per the DHS bulletin, a 72-year-old man from Merces, admitted at ESI COVID hospital with co-morbid conditions died. Two others – a 70-year-old woman from Sanguem and a 68-year-old woman from Vasco, admitted at Goa Medical College, Bambolim with co-morbid conditions also expired.

After facing flak, the tests pendency appears to be coming down to below 1000. On Monday, 3248 samples were taken, out of which 1979 were negative, 286 were positive, and 983 reports are awaited.

The State has also successfully started administering plasma therapy to critical patients.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said, “With DGCI’s permission for using the Apheresis machine to extract blood plasma, Goa has made a new breakthrough in its plasma therapy for critically-ill COVID patients.” 

He added, “With this significant development, we are moving forward head on to tackle the menace of this virus.”
