All involved in St Cruz case will be punished: CM

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that no person involved in the St Cruz shootout will be spared and sought people’s cooperation to maintain law and order. 

“No one will be spared in this case,” he told the media on being asked about the matter as he emerged from a meeting with police officers to review the law and order situation in the State. 

“Police are doing a good job but at times, people don’t cooperate. All those involved in the St Cruz case will be punished. No one will be spared. Such goondagiri, fights between gangs will not be tolerated and to ensure it does not reoccur, we are taking preventive action,” he said. With 22 arrests so far, Goa Police is likely to zero in on most persons accused in the case.

On the enforcement of the lockdown, the CM has allowed the police to be strict so as to curb further spread of COVID-19. “There is control over COVID-19 but at times, people do not understand. They should cooperate. Wearing of masks, social distancing, and health safety standards should be adhered to. We have to strictly enforce such (safety standards) at markets, etc. I have instructed the police to do so, if required,” the CM said. 

Officiating Director General of Police Jaspal Singh said that in the aftermath of the attack, all police inspectors have been instructed to remain vigilant on budding criminals. “The young boys are getting carried away by macho characters of their seniors. It is worrying. We will speak to the parents of such youngsters, their teachers if they are continuing with education,” he said.
