MARGAO: Vibrant Margao and the Margao Civic Alliance both expressed satisfaction with the voting for Margao Municipal Council and both claimed that they would be forming the next council in Margao while the Citizen’s Choice Panel hoped that people voted wisely.

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat who was making rounds through various polling booths in Margao assembly segment said that the people have voted with complete resentment against the “insensitive, irresponsible and bankrupt BJP government”.

He said the BJP government has failed to provide the basic fundamental “Right to Life” to the people in the wake of the COVID pandemic and particularly the second wave of the disease and pointed out that the government has failed to supply medical oxygen which is causing deaths.

He said seeing that its defeat is imminent, the BJP has misused the government machinery and said police were used to harass not only their supporters but even their candidates who were not allowed to enter the polling booths.

While being confident of the victory of the Margao Civil Alliance in Margao Digambar said at the other four municipal councils where elections were held today the BJP will be defeated. “Their days are over,” he said about BJP.

Meanwhile Vibrant Margao the BJP sponsored panel also expressed confidence of winning a majority as elections were over today. Vibrant Margao convener Damu Naik said they were sure to grab control of the Margao Municipal Council.

“The BJP will rule the Margao Municipal Council this time after a long break,” he said. He further claimed that all tactics adopted by Vijai Sardessai did not work and people of Margao have rejected the alliance of convenience in the form of Margao Civic Alliance.

Meanwhile the Citizen’s Choice panel that had fielded 10 candidates thanked the people for coming out to vote despite the surge in Coronavirus cases in the State and regretted that despite the pandemic situation the government went ahead with the elections.
