Almeida joins Congress

PANJIM: Two-term Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida was inducted into Congress Party on Wednesday in the presence of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, AICC in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao and several of his supporters here in Panjim. 

“BJP is not the same old party with ideology anymore. It was party of principles when Parrikar was Chief Minister but not anymore. This made me resign and join the Congress party,” said Almeida. Adding further he said, ‘decision was taken jointly by taking all my close supporters into consideration’. 

Induction of person (Almeida) working at the grass root level joining the Congress party is like an asset for the party,” said Kamat.

Chodankar, criticising the incumbent government, said Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is no longer the party with principles but has now become the party of ‘sex scandal’, ‘Sopte tax scandal’ and ‘job scam.’” Adding to this, Rao said “BJP today has become a negative, destructive force. They want to use their money power, divide people and political parties. 

Seven other councillors of Mormugao Municipal Council were inducted into Congress party.

 at this time. Reportedly, couple of days ago Cortalim BJP MLA Alina Saldhana of Mormugao Municipal council had resigned from BJP and joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claiming the reason of her resignation to be on the similar grounds.
