vasco: Highlighting the importance of blue flag certification to Baina beach, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida said if the beach gets the same, then it will attract overseas tourists, increased business and that the port town would flourish once again, andthat Vasco would develop in an economic perspective and be put on the international map.
“Despite being connected by all modes of transport like waterways, roadway, railways and airways and being a town housing all infrastructure of strategic importance, Vasco still lacking behind economically and finds it difficult to flourish in business,” said Almeida.
He also recalled that former Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar cleared the beach, changed its former image and made it accessible to the public.
“For the last three years, a large number of tourists have been arriving. There were more than 4,000 people who visited the beach last season for waters ports alone,” Almeida added.
He also referred to how blue flag certification has helped their respective localities in other States.
“I have put a proposal to the Government to have the Baina beach certified as a blue flag beach in a systematic manner. All Vascokars will benefit from this,” he added, while denying suggestions that local fishermen have objections.
“Initially there was an opposition to the certification in Miramar but it was because people were not guided properly. Vasco is a last stop and we are lucky we have railway station, port and an airport as well and this is the best place for businessmen. The certification is not easy to get and there are strict norms that are to be followed and we can’t interfere and the assessment will be done by professionals,” he added.
