MARGAO: The gram sabha of Ambelim village panchayat passed a resolution requiring landowners to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the panchayat before renting out rooms to migrants within the panchayat’s jurisdiction.
By implementing this resolution, the panchayat aims to gather tenant details and generate additional revenue. “The panchayat finds it difficult to carry out the tenants’ verification as the process is done without taking the panchayat body into confidence. So, we have decided to ask the owners of the houses to first take NOC from the panchayat followed by verification at the police level,” said Sarpanch Alex D’Souza.
The GS has also taken a strong stance on the issue of the Regional Plan 2021, resolving that no changes should be made to the plan without proper consultation and a transparent process involving the villagers. The gram sabha, chaired by Sarpanch Alex D’Souza, also emphasised the need to protect all eco-sensitive zones at any cost. Social activists, led by Anthony D’Silva, expressed their concerns during the meeting, alleging that the government intends to grant backdoor entry to real estate developers under the pretext of rectifying errors in the regional plan. D’Silva emphasized the importance of following due process and consulting the people of Goa, especially those in Ambelim and other villages affected by the proposed corrections.
