SANGUEM: Sanguem seems to be the ultimate choice of the government for the ambitious IIT project. In this respect, the authorities have even conducted a site inspection of the vacant vast land behind the neglected police colony at Kharkhatiaghati, Sanguem.
Addressing a felicitation function at Molcornem, Sanguem on Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar’s birthday on Wednesday, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar hinted that the IIT project is likely to come up in Sanguem if everything goes as planned. Though exact details of the project were not disclosed, Parrikar said Sanguem is likely to be the final choice for setting up the long delayed project.
Parrikar assured to undertake several development projects in Sanguem under the leadership of Prasad Gaonkar. Admitting that Sanguem has not achieved the desired development over the years, Parrikar assured to undertake tourism projects, children’s park and schemes to boost the cashew cultivation in the taluka.
Parrikar was felicitated at the hands of a senior citizen Dr Shankar Nadkarni in the presence of Babu Azgaonkar, Vijai Sardesai, Govind Gaude, Jayesh Salgaonkar and others.
Prasad Gaonkar cut the cake in the presence of the Chief Minister and others.
The function was compered by Sarvanand Sawant Dessai.
It is also learnt that the government is eying another vacant land near Uguem chapel for the IIT project.
Sources informed that the vacant land at Uguem was initially identified by former MLA Subhash Phal Dessai for setting up development projects in the constituency but his vision could not materialise due to the time factor.
