Amend land acquisition policy: Mahadev

PANJIM: Industries Minister Mahadev Naik on Friday expressed his helplessness in acquiring land for setting up of industrial estates under the new Central Land Acquisition Policy and pegged his hopes on Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s visit to New Delhi soon after Assembly session with a demand to amend the land acquisition policy, as the state government is not in sync with the central policy.

“Unless the central policy is amended, government cannot go ahead with any land acquisition for industrial purposes, unless the land belongs to government,” Naik said while replying to the question raised by Aldona BJP legislator Glenn Ticlo. “The erstwhile UPA put up a tedious policy to ensure that all developmental work is halted,” he claimed. The minister said that though government has proposed new industrial estates and expansion of the existing ones, the land has not been acquired. While the land acquisition in cases such as Latambarcem in Bicholim, and Shiroda is underway, in case of four others the land acquisition process is not yet initiated. “We are finding it difficult as most land is not government land,” he said.  Naik informed the House that there are over 185 plots in government possession in various industrial estates with total land admeasuring around 17.58 lakh sq mts. The maximum number of 64 plots is available at Kakoda industrial estate followed by 35 at Sanguem. Naik said that there are over hundreds of unutilized plots, whose owners are been issued show cause notices and the process of taking over the plots would commence soon.
