PANJIM: Even as Goa is reeling under severe infrastructure glitches, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar announced that world class infrastructure development plan for entire Goa would be prepared by end of 2015.
He also said that the service of LKS India private limited, who were appointed consultants to prepare the holistic design of infrastructure for Panjim city, would be extended to Margao and Porvorim, while speaking on the floor of House on Friday.
Parrikar said that government would also shortly finalize a world class consultant for preparing an infrastructure plan for three major cities –Mapusa, Ponda and Vasco and pegged the financial requirement at over Rs 1500 crore for development of Panjim, Margao and Porvorim for next three years.
“I believe that with increasing haphazard development a concrete management plan is required for the entire State, which would cover not just cities but also rural areas, which are also trying to develop parallel to cities,” the Chief Minister said while replying to a private member resolution moved by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte.
“The House strongly recommends to the government that a consultant be appointed to draw out a infrastructure plan for Goa and especially for fast growing constituencies such as Porvorim to avoid problems faced by out-grown cities and towns,” the resolution, which was withdrawn following Chief Minister assurance, read.
Parrikar said that LKS consultant has been asked to prepare a plan for Panjim and their service would be extended to Margao and Porvorim in the next two-three months.
“The execution of work is not that easy…funding is required…so we will take up entire Goa in a phased manner,” he assured.
In yet another reply, Parrikar assured setting up of a core committee and assessment centres for students passing out of special schools. “A committee would be formed by next week and in next two to three months a policy on education of children with special needs would be drafted,” he said.
Khaunte had moved a private member resolution that government may urgently clear the scheme of education of children with special needs by setting up a core committee, assessment centres like skill resource rooms and academic skills resources in regular schools and vocational training for such students.
