Sardesai made this suggestion on the floor of the House during the calling attention motion moved by him and BJP MLA Pramod Sawant on the Union Government decision to reject special status proposal moved by the State.
“This House had on March 7, 2013 unanimously resolved to take up the demand for Special Status for Goa before Central government. The reply in the Raj Sabha has come as a shock. Alina (Forest Minister) had said she would resign if special status is not granted…I am not asking her to resign. But let us all 40 resign and create a constitutional deadlock…let’s face the elections again. Let the election be fought on this issue,” the legislator opined.
But Sardesai’s vociferous demand was rejected outright by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who equated this demand to suicide. “I don’t agree with what Sardesai has been saying. I think positive. We will get Special Status,” Parrikar said.
“I feel since he could not do anything even after winning the election, he is now thinking of resigning,” Parrikar said, pointing to the media report about the demand that his cabinet colleague should resign over the issue.
