Amended Land Act & Jetty Policy aimed at destroying State: Cong

Says direct assault on Goemkarponn, will be an end of Goa if implemented

MARGAO: The Congress on Friday alleged that the public notices issued by the State government over the amended Goa Land Development and Building Construction Regulation Act and Jetty Policy are aimed at destroying Goa and Goemkar completely.

“It is a direct assault on Goemkarponn and it will be the end of Goa if implemented,” the party further claimed. Addressing a press briefing, here, Congress leader Elvis Gomes in the presence of Savio

D’Silva, president of the South Goa Congress Committee and Ramiro Mascarenhas appealed to the panchayats and newly elected sarpanchas to raise their voice against the two policies of the government.

“Panchayats have been given powers in the Constitution, and shockingly the Tourism Department issues public notice with regard to jetty policy, asking to reply within 15 days period, which is totally against the Constitution,” Gomes stated.

He further said that there is not even mention of powers given to the panchayats and the gram sabha so that jetties are built for the benefit of big corporators. The department has even failed to take review on the impact that it will have on the environment due to the jetties.

“The government is trying to give permission for the construction even in the agricultural lands through the amended Goa Land Development and Building Construction Regulation Act,” he added.

He appealed to the panchayats to hold gram sabha and deliberate on the above two notices at the earliest.

Savio appealed to the eight MLAs, who have defected in the BJP to raise their voice on the above issues if they have really joined the ruling side in the interest of Goa.
