Chairman Joaquim Inas Fernandes offered to hand over charge to adhoc committee till new BoDs is elected; Alvaro D’Silva from Velim appointed RO to conduct elections

CHANDOR: Even as gross violation of rules specially in financial matters with no functioning board of directors since 2013 were uncovered at the general body meeting of Chandor

Guirdolim Cavorim Service Co-operative Society, its chairman Joaquim Inas Fernandes offered to hand over charge to an adhoc committee till a new board of directors is elected.

Incidentally, Alvaro D’Silva from Velim was appointed as Returning Officer to conduct elections for the new board of directors.

Ironically, though the committee had submitted its findings to the Joaquim on February 21, he had no answers to the various questions.

Some of the gross violations noted by the committee were payment of an amount of Rs 9 lakh as honorarium to the chairman without any resolution to that effect taken at any Board of Directors meeting.

Besides, the auditors noted that an amount of Rs 9 lakh was paid as honorarium to the directors.

This was proven to be true as the auditors noted that there no vouchers were provided showing that the directors had received the honorarium. It was also pointed out that Rs 11,54,799 was spent for repairs and maintenance but there were no bills.

While as per records, the society had an astounding amount of Rs 9,59,158 , the chairman today said he does not have any such money with him.

And though the minutes book indicated that a new account with around Rs 50,000 was opened with another nationalised bank, the passbook was not provided to the committee.

Faced with a barrage of questions from shareholders over mismanagement, the chairman said he was willing to step down from March 1, 2024.
