PANJIM: Amidst tension between taxi operators and GoaMiles, the app-based taxi operator has decided to expand its taxi service to Mumbai and Pune from January 2021.
Director of Operations (GoaMiles) Parashar Pai Khot said the firm will continue to look for Goa-based drivers in the neighbouring metros too.
“From New Year in January 2021, we intend to start the app-based taxi service in Mumbai and Pune. Roughly 500-700 jobs will be open and we are also contemplating to advertise in the Maharashtra newspaper seeking drivers. Our preference will be Goans who are living there…they can apply for the jobs with us in Mumbai and Pune,” he said.
The operations in the two neighbouring metros will be handled from Goa, as per Khot. The GoaMiles, supported by Goa Tourism Development Corporation, has also expressed displeasure over the recent attack on its drivers, yet again. Khot, while welcoming government’s decision on compulsory badges for the drivers, said their drivers possess all the required documents demanded by the government.
Those drivers without badges have been removed from service.
He also alleged that the taxi operators were deliberately creating a problem for GoaMiles and instigating violence, complaints in connection to which has been submitted to the Goa Police.
The online aggregator has also sought for police protection while urging its competitor to work together in the interest of tourism in the State.
