BICHOLIM: In an interesting move, the Amona Panchayat has initiated a QR code campaign to resolve the burning issue of garbage and make the village garbage-free.
Under the guidance of Amona sarpanch Krishna Gawas, QR codes have been fixed on the walls of around 850 houses in the panchayat jurisdiction which will provide information with regards to waste collection.
During garbage collection, the waste collector will scan the code which will help the panchayat in compiling the data.
The panchayat has taken up this initiative in co-operation with the Mineral Foundation.
The days have been fixed to collect the garbage ward-wise and as per the schedule, a vehicle along with sanitary workers will collect the waste. Once the QR code is scanned, the panchayat will be alerted that the waste has been picked up from the respective houses.
The campaign commenced from Ambeshiwada in the presence of Deputy Sarpanch Diya Sawant, panch members Gauravi Gawas, Vasant Sinari, Sagar Fadte, Anish Amonkar, Vasudev Ghadi and Mineral Foundation’s project executive Suraj Gaonkar.
“The panchayat has taken up initiative to make Amona village garbage-free and we appeal for locals to cooperate with us. The people should refrain from disposing their waste out in the open. The panchayat vehicle with sanitation workers will visit each ward on the scheduled days. People should keep their waste outside their houses on these days,” the sarpanch appealed.
