MAPUSA: The Anti Narcotics Cell have arrested Russian National Yuri Korytin and seized Rs 1.03 crore worth narcotics at Chopdem on Thursday. The drug haul consists of 1.7 kg hydrophonic weed worth Rs 85 lakh and 300 grams of hydrophonic Cannabis powder worth Rs 18 lakh.
Initially Yuri came to Goa in 2016 and worked as a DJ. Then he left for Russia in 2019. He then went to Thailand and learnt how to grow hydrophonic weed which he said was legal there. Due to lower profits he shifted to Goa in 2020 since profitability in Goa was higher.
Since then he was making yearly trips to Goa. On his last trip he came in 2023 with his wife and child and rented a place in Siolim and then in Palyem Pernem where he set up a nursery to grow hydrophonic weed. He was selling it through the dark web.
