MARGAO: Though the monsoon is round the corner, many a storm water drain within the Margao Municipal Council jurisdiction is still awaiting de-silting till date.
A case in point is the main drain passing along the exit gate of the South Goa district Collectorate.
While Additional district Collector Venancio Furtado recently had a meeting with representatives of different departments in the Collectorate to review the monsoon preparedness of the agencies, the drain passing just outside the exit gate of the Collectorate building seems to have escaped the attention of the officials concerned.
Not only is the drain clogged with plastic waste, but is full of construction debris. It is not known whether the drain has to be cleaned by the Margao municipality or the water resources department or the PWD.
Incidentally, while the GSIDC on Wednesday took up the Ambaji-Nehru stadium road hot mixing work, the drain along the roadside cut a sorry picture and was calling for attention from the agencies.
Former Margao municipal councillor Johnny Crasto said the agencies concerned should act fast before the onset of monsoon.
It is learnt that the Ward Councillor Berta Cardozo had taken up the matter with the municipality, but sources in the know said the file pertaining to the work was not forwarded to the WRD for a long time.
