The Anganwadi helper allegedly burnt the boy’s cheeks with a hot spoon and dragged him to the wall, while the teacher allegedly watched. The boy was also not given medical aid for nearly 45 minutes until his parents took him to the nearest primary health centre.
“We have terminated the helper and the teacher after due inquiry,” WCD director Deepali Naik told Herald.
There have been allegations against Panchali for physically abusing children by assaulting them with a ‘wooden ruler’ and of allegedly locking most of them either in a cupboard or toilet and putting them in boxes for their naughtiness.
The boy’s mother, who appeared before the inquiry officer of the WCD, alleged that Anganwadi employees did not provide her son any medical aid.
The helper had initially claimed that the boy was wounded on being hit by a school bag and later changed her version saying the spoon attack was by mistake while cooking the mid-day meal.
The mother also stated that Panchali tried to hush up the case by influencing them to tell the police that the incident never happened in the Anganwadi.
