PANJIM: The seven anganwadi workers on Monday withdrew their hunger strike after the government agreed to accept their demands and took them back in service.
The anganwadi workers were on strike at the Azad Maidan, Panjim for the last 47 days in protest against their termination and to demand that they be taken back into service. For the last 25 days they were on hunger strike.
On the first day of the Assembly session, the Opposition members attacked the government for failing to resolve the issue of the seven striking anganwadi workers following which Chief Minister Pramod Sawant called for a meeting with the
aggrieved workers.
By late evening, three of the seven workers on hunger strike reached the Assembly Complex, Porvorim to attend the meeting which was being held in the presence of Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, WCD Minister Vishwajit Rane and other MLAs. The matter was later resolved.
