PANJIM: The Goa Union of Anganwadi Workers has given notice to the State department that they will be holding a mass strike on December 21, if their charter of demands is not fulfilled.

The union which consists of anganwadi workers and helpers will hold a protest at Azad Maidan, here, if their demands are not fulfilled in two weeks.
On Tuesday, a large number of anganwadi workers submitted a memorandum to the Directorate of Women and Child Development and conveyed their grievances.
While a key part of their demand is clearing of pending salaries, they also questioned what happened to the promise that was made to them earlier about increasing their salaries.
Demanding that they be treated on par with the government employees, the workers said there should be equal pay for equal work.
They explained that although they do work for the Women and Child Department based on its schemes, they are asked to do work for the Education Department, Health Department and other duties including verification of Aadhaar cards.
They highlighted how they were asked to do the work on Aadhaar cards for free while presently the government had hired a government agency to do the work where the same work is a paid service for the workers doing that work.
They also pointed out that they had done work during the COVID-19 pandemic risking their lives.
