PANJIM: The wait finally appears to be ending as over a 1000 crew members on the cruise vessels Angriya and Karnika are scheduled to finally arrive in the State next week.
The State Executive Committee (SEC) was informed by the Ports Secretary that the crew of the ships Angriya and Karnika are expected to come to Goa in the coming week. “The shipping companies of these vessels have finalised the hotels to be used as quarantine centres for the disembarking seafarers,” the Ports Secretary informed the SEC.
The SEC asked him to ensure that the movement of seafarers is as per the laid down protocols.
The SEC also discussed the issue of people coming to Goa from other States or from outside India as nodal officer Kunal informed them that the Ministry of External Affairs will be creating a central portal to share information on flight schedules and testing details of the people coming from outside India.
Kunal also informed the SEC that some of the migrants stranded in Goa have been ferried by the buses to the nearby States and that there are plans to move some of the labourers from Madhya Pradesh by a special train in a couple of days.
Health Secretary Nila Mohanan disclosed that the department is working for the return journey of the epidemiologist who had trained the health professionals in Goa with testing protocols and also help to set up a number of testing labs in Goa.
“His support was instrumental for the State to be able to establish and announce the testing capacity within the State,” she said. She also mentioned that the rate of testing in the State is about 2,200 per million which is higher than the national average.
Further, the IGP informed that the police have so far taken action against 1,219 persons for not wearing masks and 5,134 persons for spitting in public places. The SEC advised the continuation of strict action in this regard.
The nodal officer for foreigners informed that till date 6,651 persons left Goa in 34 special flights. On Thursday one flight left for Ukraine with 177 tourists.
