Animated Narkasurs and nightlong revelry enliven Goa

PONDA: In the spirit of Diwali, the tradition of crafting and burning Narkasura effigies took centre stage in several villages across Goa, especially in Ponda. The spectacle featured fierce competitions showcasing intricate artistry and modern technology, bringing these demonic creations to life.

Artists ingeniously incorporated motion and action-based elements into the effigies, making them appear as animated, larger-than-life demons. The vivid displays, complete with moving legs, hands, glowing red eyes and menacing weapons, captivated audiences of all ages, offering a mesmerizing experience.

The tradition of burning Narkasura symbolizes the victory of good over evil, rooted in the mythology of Lord Krishna slaying the demon Narkasura.
