ANJUNA: The issue of mobile towers dominated the proceedings of the Anjuna – Caisua gramsabha which was attended by barely a handful of locals on Sunday.
The villagers took the panchayat to task on the mobile towers issue which had come up in the last gramsabha as well. The meeting which was adjourned for nearly half an hour for lack of quorum concluded in less than forty minutes.
Secretary, Dharmendra Govekar read out the minutes of the previous meeting. Anjuna-Caisua Sarpanch, Patrik Savio Almeida was asked by locals the reason behind the poor turnout at the meeting. In response, Almeida said that the villagers had full faith in the working of the panchayat body and hence chose to rest on Sunday.
“The villagers are happy because our works are completed in time. We have tried to convince the locals to attend the gramsabha proceedings on several occasions but despite that there has been a poor turnout at the meeting,” he added.
The Sarpanch, however, failed to provide the locals with satisfactory answers on mobile towers issue. The villagers questioned the Sarpanch the purpose of a gramsabha when the Panchayat body is unable to reply to their questions. They pointed out that the Panchayat had failed to provide a detailed reply on the issue related to the mobile tower which was taken up in the previous gramsabha as well.
The issue led to heated arguments with the meeting being called off within forty minutes of its commencement.
