PANJIM: Anjuna-Caisua Sarpanch Laxmidas Chimulkar on Tuesday expressed happiness that the matter related to holding Sunburn Electronic Dance Music (EDM) has been resolved.
“The matter is resolved. It is not happening on December 31. We had problems with this date only. It is okay if the festival is held on December 28, 29 and 30. We do not have a problem on these dates,” Chimulkar told O Heraldo.
The Department of Tourism had on Monday granted provisional licence to organisers of the Sunburn Electronic Dance Music (EDM) festival for three days from 4 pm to 10 pm only and not up to
midnight as sought by the organisers.
The Comunidade of Anjuna in an extraordinary general body meeting held on Sunday had decided not to allow Sunburn to be held on December 31, 2023.
Comunidade of Anjuna managing committee president Domingos Pereira had said, “The meeting decided that the Sunburn will be allowed to be held on only three days i.e. December 28, 29 and 30, 2023. We will be giving them the venue for only three days. Not on December 31. Not at all. All the locals are against it. The organisers cannot dictate terms to us.”
The annual Sunburn festival has been synonymous with controversy. This year again it was at the centre of a storm as organizers face resistance from locals and the Communidade body.
