MAPUSA: Anjuna-Caisua panchayat members at last heaved a sigh of relief following the transfer of the ‘controversial’ panchayat secretary Dharmendra Govekar.
The secretary has spent more than seven years at the panchayat and was allegedly involved in conflicts with the panch members.
The secretary was also allegedly involved in arguments with panch members including the sarpanch in front of locals and so, the panchayat since last year was trying to get him transferred.
This is Govekar’s third and final transfer. He was transferred twice during the tenure of the previous panchayat. However, he managed to come back to the same panchayat allegedly using his political connections.
Former panch members Surendra Govekar, Hanumant Govekar and Sheetal Dabholkar as well as locals Ankit Salgaonkar, Ravi Harmalkar, Thomas Fernandes and Ramesh Naik had filed complaints against the secretary at Bardez BDO office, Directorate of Panchayats and Directorate of Vigilance. Former chairman of Anjuna-Caisua biodiversity management committee Michael D’Souza also said that the secretary never cooperated with the committee and in fact, did not even attend the meetings.
