MAPUSA: The Anjuna-Caisua gram sabha was adjourned consecutively for the third time by Sarpanch Savio Almeida.
Initially, the secretary read and confirmed the minutes of the previous meeting. Further as per the agenda, a discussion was held on validation of People’s Biodiversity Register of Anjuna Caisua and also a congratulations motion was passed for achieving the award for being the cleanest village in North Goa.
Followed by this, the Sarpanch Almeida informed that due to the Code of Conduct, no discussions could be held on the development works as well as the proposals given by the locals and declared that the meeting is over.
The sarpanch then adjourned the meeting and walked out of the hall along with other panch members.
However, when the sarpanch failed to take up the proposals for discussion, the gram sabha turned chaotic.
The locals criticised the sarpanch for not undertaking proposals put forward by locals in the gram sabha for discussion. Proposals such as objection to shifting of casinos in Chapora River, proposal demanding not to issue construction NOC to any builder until a sub-station comes up, proposal to object urbanisation and more were put forward by the locals for discussion.
The locals informed that government’s decision to cancel the urbanisation notification is just an eye wash since the ZP elections are in process. Further, the locals criticised the sarpanch stating that since people were planning to expose the scams of panchayat and the sarpanch, he adjourned the meeting.
