With an
increasing number of anti-social elements such as drugs, prostitution and
destruction of beaches taking place in the coastal belt, Anjuna Sarpanch Patrick Savio Almeida stated that
the panchayat needs assistance from the government, as the panchayat lacks the
machinery needed to tackle the situation.
The
Anjuna panchayat has stopped issuing a license for massage parlours for three
years now, said Almeida. He stated that under the
pretext of Ayurveda, licenses are obtained from the panchayat and illegal
activities are conducted without the panchayat’s knowledge. Almeida informed
that the panchayat is monitoring spas in the area and will take action against
illegal activities and has appealed to the people to come forward with genuine
cases of illegalities.
