ASSAGAO: Anjuna PI Chetan Patil appealed to the locals to stand unitedly and not to distance themselves from the police at a public-police interaction held at the Assagao panchayat hall recently.
He emphasised on social policing stating that several issues could be solved by holding a discussion and arriving at mutual understanding between the two concerned parties.
“There is no need of fearing police personnel you can walk into my police station at any time and meet me or my officers. I am not happy in sending cases to court and troubling the people as it is long process where court cases are concerned,” he said.
A number of citizens asked questions on various issues related to policing to which Anjuna PI gave prompt replies.
A resident pointed out that everyone is equal before the law. “Sometimes police come under political pressure and try to stop a person from lodging a complaint. It also has been noticed that those who commit a crime are seen roaming around carefree with no strict action being taken against them,” he said.
Anjuna PI said that the people are free to call him, the DYSP or any other police officer for that matter.
The programme was organised by a social worker, Shreha Dhargalkar.
