Anjuna Police arrested a habitual criminal involved in
snatching cases following an incident on June 24, 2023, where an unknown
accused had snatched Rs. 40,000 in cash from a complainant.
According to SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi, the complainant, a
driver of a 407 Tempo along with a helper, was engaged in delivering milk
packets in Siolim, Morjim, Mandrem, and Arambol areas, as well as collecting
payments. On the same day, around 08:00 hrs, when the tempo reached near SFX
High School, Siolim, a scooter rider wearing a whitish raincoat asked the
driver to stop the vehicle. The driver complied, and the rider proceeded to
argue and snatch the cash from the complainant’s pocket before fleeing on the
scooter.
Anjuna Police promptly registered an offense under sections
356 and 379 of the IPC and initiated an investigation.
The complainant positively identified the suspect, Agostinho
Carvalho, a resident of Majorda, who had a similar modus operandi as captured
in photographs of other incidents.
A special team, under the supervision of SDPO Mapusa, Shri.
Jivba Dalvi, and Police Inspector Anjuna Police Station, Shri Prashal P.N.
Dessai, was formed to pursue the case. The team, comprising PSI Ashish B.
Parab, along with PCs 6473 Mahendra Mandrekar, 6898 Shambha Shetgaonkar, 7030
Abhishek Kasar, 8368 Krishan Bugde, and 6633 Satyendra Nasnodkar, apprehended
and arrested the accused, Mr. Agostinho Carvalho, aged 40 years, residing at H
No. 53 – A, Gomes Ward, Majorda, Salcete, Goa.
The police successfully recovered the Activa Scooter bearing
registration number GA 11 J 0863 used during the commission of the crime.
The investigation is currently underway under the
supervision of PI Prashal Dessai, SDPO Jivba Dalvi, and SP North Bossueit
D’Silva.
