Anjuna police turn deaf ear to loud music

Villagers complain of spending five sleepless nights; allege cops dance to the tunes of violators; refuse to act and implement HC order in letter and spirit

MAPUSA: Loud music continued to haunt  Anjunkars and the neighbouhood as authorities turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the violations around.

“Deafening music is being played from dusk to dawn and we have spent five sleepless nights from Wednesday onwards. It is pointless filing complaining or raising your voice as the authorities refuse to act,” said locals speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of being targeted.

“There are several High Court orders in place right from directing the police to conduct night patrolling and asses noise or sound pollution with the help of a decibel metre but nothing is being implemented,” alleged locals and added that they had lost faith in the administration as the law is never implemented in letter and spirit by the police here.

For the past several days, blasting music is being played throughout the night in Anjuna and Vagator even at venues that are supposed to be sealed.

Desmond Alvares from Assagao said, “ The Dubki and Hyati clubs were sealed as they had no permission from GSPCB to operate their establishments. Last night, music was played full blast, I bet it could be heard upto Mapusa but none of the authorities responded to my calls or messages.

“Loud is played at clubs operated by outsiders who don’t care about the High Court orders who we call honourable. These outsiders have a nexus with the powerful drug mafia, some government officials including the police to run their illegal businesses. Every time I dial 100 to inform the police about loud parties, the police don’t act and if an RTI is filed to get the details of complaints then their data says there are zero complaints and Zero FIRs,” alleged Ravi Harmalkar, a local and social activist.

Sagardeep Sirsaikar said,“I will file an RTI with the Pollution Control Board to enquire into the complaint filed by me.”

When O Heraldo tried to contact  the Anjuna PI Prashal Desai and DySP to ask for their comments, both the officers refused to pick up calls.
