Anjuna Resident Alleges Roadworks Halted After ZP Polls, Warns of Protest Against Siolim MLA

Anjuna-based resident Yogesh Govekar, popularly known as Mogambo, has alleged that road repair works undertaken in the area just ahead of the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections were merely a temporary measure and have since come to a complete halt.

Govekar claimed that the works were initiated as a pre-election gimmick and alleged that Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo had assured residents that the roadworks would be completed after the ZP polls. However, he said no progress has been made so far, causing inconvenience and safety concerns for locals and tourists alike.

Highlighting the condition of the road, Govekar pointed out that tar had been laid on only one side of the stretch, while the other side remains unfinished. He said the uneven surface poses a serious risk to pedestrians and motorists.

Local resident Gajanan Tilve, who accompanied Govekar, said that just a few days ago, tourists had tripped and fallen due to the poor and uneven condition of the road. He warned that if the work does not resume at the earliest, residents along with other locals would be forced to stage a protest.

Tilve added that the proposed agitation would be held outside the residence of Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo to draw attention to the issue and press for immediate completion of the stalled roadworks.
