Anjuna youth confront Power dept

ANJUNA: Fed up over power woes, a delegation comprising youth from Anjuna under the banner ‘United Anjuna’ marched to the Electricity Department at Mapusa to demand a solution to the issue of constant load shedding and power cuts on Monday afternoon. They also submitted a memorandum to the Executive Engineer citing their problems and requesting a solution to the same.
The villagers are facing power problems for the last few months and their requests to resolve the problem have fallen on deaf ears. They claim they have made verbal complaints to the local authorities but there has been no improvement. They lamented that these problems have become a matter of serious concern to the small retailers in the village, especially those who sell frozen stuff. The memorandum stated that businesses in the area have suffered losses and they gave the example about how frozen and dairy items have got spoilt due to the power outages.  They further called on the Executive Engineer to chalk out a permanent solution to the problem of constant load shedding and power cuts in the village. A youth pointed out that a sub-station was proposed for the village but its works had not been initiated.
The residents have highlighted that they have full faith in the authorities and hope to see uninterrupted power supply being provided to all the households of Anjuna.
The Executive Engineer informed the gathering that they have proposed an estimate for the planned sub-station and that they are following up with the power ministry regarding the same. He gave them an assurance that the new power sub-station will permanently solve their power woes.
