BICHOLIM: The water level at Anjunem Dam has gone down having almost one metre less water as compared to the last year even as the officials have expressed confidence that the water would be sufficient till June 20.
It may be stated that the Anjunem Dam is one of the important sources of drinking water for North Goa and the same water is also supplied for irrigation in several parts of Keri, Sattari.
With the water level having gone down drastically and the weather forecast showing delay in the monsoon, has given anxious moments for many. The people fear that if the water level still goes down then they would experience shortage of water in North Goa.
Speaking to Herald, Assistant Engineer (Anjunem Dam), G K Pawadi accepted that the water level this year is almost one metre lower as compared to the last year.
Pawadi attributed the reason to less rainfall in September adding that at present the water level is 70.6 and we have water of about eight metres in the dam and it would be sufficient till June 20.
“We will stop the water for irrigation and it would be kept only for drinking purpose. If we supply water at the same level as we are now supplying then it would be enough to last till June 20,” Pawadi said.
