Jewellery shop robbed of ornaments, coins

MARGAO, JAN 22
In yet another daring daylight gold heist in the Commercial Capital, an unknown miscreant walked inside a jewellery shop and decamped with gold ornaments and silver coins all worth over Rs one lakh.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning at around 9.30 am when the lone miscreant walked into Anant Jewellers in a busy locality behind Grace Church and decamped with the booty.
The owner Anant Raikar was alone in the shop when the miscreant posing as a customer came inside and asked for silver coins. He told the owner to keep the coins in a purse and asked to have a look at gold ornaments placed in a tray.
After striking a deal, he took the owner outside and pointed to a building where a function was going on and that someone would come to take the silver coins.
The owner returned inside the shop and minutes later realized that the purse containing the silver coins and the gold ornaments went missing.
Margao police station incharge, PI Rajendra Prabhudessai informed that the owner has given description of the miscreant and that the police are investigating into the daring incident.
Finger print experts were requisitioned to lift prints left by the miscreant.
This is the first major case involving theft in a burglary case this year in Margao. Last year, burglars had struck gold in a big way, decamping with gold ornaments from jewelry shops.
