Another IPL betting racket busted, 3 held

PANJIM: The Crime Branch (CB) team arrested three persons in a crackdown on cricket betting racket being operated from a hotel at Morjim. 

Sandeep Patel, Krishnakant and Bhoja Bhopal Yadav, all hailing from Hyderabad were caught red-handed accepting bets on the ongoing Indian Premier League matches from people pan-India.

Crime Branch Superintendent of Police Shobhit Saxena informed that the men, who are habitual gang of bookies, would register these bets on high-tech software to calculate winnings at the end of each game.

“The trio is a habitual gang of bookies operating since last four years. Every year they establish base at different places across India. At the beginning of each season, they accept deposit from their interested customers and at the end of the season accounts are settled as per winning and losses, as per calculation of software,” he said.

The raiding team also seized one laptop, one LED screen, eight mobiles phones and cash of Rs 19,200 from their possession. All the accused are booked under Sections 3 and 4 of Goa Daman and Diu Prevention of Public Gambling Act 1976.

The raid follows a day after Calangute Police arrested five persons, from Rajasthan and Nepal for organising IPL betting; and seized Rs 95,000 cash, nine mobile phones and two laptops. Accused in both the offences were soon bailed out.
