Another set of migrants, 247 of them, cross border, proceed to Karnataka

canacona: 247 Karnataka natives arrived at the Polem check post on Thursday and after the mandatory registration process and health parameters all of them were allowed to walk to the Mazali gate for further processing. 

The Karnataka government had earlier announced that it has made arrangements to ferry these migrants after the mandatory heath checks at the Karnataka side of Polem border

Those from Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka were allowed entry inside Karnataka without pass while the others from other districts of Karnataka were allowed after generating travel pass by the authorities on the Mazali check point.

Expecting long delays in registration and health checks, the authorities on the Karnataka side of the Polem border has erected a huge pandal to serve drinking amongst other things sources said.

Sources at the Polem checkpost added that the migrants labourers, after the due registration and screening, were allowed to cross the border on foot upto Mazali check post which about 300 mts away. 

“After further registration the migrants were checked for cold, fever or other symptoms similar to COVID-19 and after a thorough checkup, they were sent to Karwar Civil Hospital where they will be put through various tests and medical procedures”.

After satisfactory results depending on case-by-case basis, they will be stamped for home quarantine for 14 days” sources informed.

“Karnataka State Transport Corporation has kept 60 buses to ferry the migrants to their native places once they are cleared for onward journey to their respective homes” informed another source from Mazali.
