Anti-coal activists serve 48-hour ultimatum to issue stop work order

Also alleged that there is a big conspiracy between the government and the corporates involved in pushing the project

MARGAO: Goyant Kollso Naka (GKN) has given a 48-hours ultimatum to issue stop-work orders pertaining to the railway double tracking. The NGO has warned of going to any extent in order to stop the project.

Addressing media persons in Margao, members of the GKN stated that the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant will be held responsible if any untoward incident happens.

GKN further said that the Chief Minister had promised to stop the ongoing works of railway double-tracking and he should fulfil his promise.

The activists further informed that out of 36 MLAs they met, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral and MLA Rajesh Phaldesai have not declared their support for the movement against the double-tracking of railways.

GKN also alleged that there is a big conspiracy between the government and the corporates involved in pushing the project, and the Goa government is under pressure.

Abhijit Prabhudesai said that they want the CM to issue an order stopping the works of railway double tracking which has continued despite the Supreme Court order.

“When a delegation of GKN met the Chief Minister a few days ago, he had assured us that he would stop the work of double-tracking. However, there is no sign of any orders from the government. Now, we are giving a 48-hours deadline to issue the order and stop the work”, he stated.

He further said that people will defend and protect the state and will go to any extent to stop the works if the government fails to fulfil its promise.

Prabhudesai said “GKN reminds the people of Goa that the double-tracking project is only at the behest of private corporations, who wish to convert Goa into a coal hub. The Sagarmala Project, which plans to transport 137 MTPA of coal from Goa, also requires our rivers, khazans, villages and highways to be used for coal transportation.”

He called upon all Goans to realize the magnitude of the coal transportation project and how it will impact all.
