Activists call on ministers, MLAs with Lohia Maidan resolution
MARGAO: The Goans for Dabolim Only on Tuesday launched phase-II of its agitation against Mopa when its activists kicked off a campaign to call on ministers and MLAs with resolutions adopted at the Lohia Maidan demanding an immediate stop to all works and processes relating to Mopa.
The core members of ‘Goans for Dabolim Only’ submitted the resolutions along with a covering letter to Avertano Furtado and Alina Saldanha, both ministers in the Parrikar government drawing their attention to the ongoing movement against the Mopa airport.
“From Tuesday, we have started the exercise of calling on the ministers in the Parrikar government as well as all MLAs of the Goa Legislative Assembly. They will be given a copy of the resolution adopted at the Lohia Maidan calling for a stop to all activities at Mopa,” ‘Goans for Dabolim Only’ Convenor Fr Eremito Rebello told Herald on Tuesday. “We expect the ministers and MLAs to respect the sentiments of Goans in favour of Dabolim as Goa’s lone international airport,” he said, when asked whether the forum was asking the elected representatives to make their stand clear on the issue.
He said the core members would hold a meeting to chalk out the strategy to take the ongoing agitation to the North of River Zuari and River Mandovi.
In an apparent reference to the statements issued by former chief minister Dr Wilfred de Souza and former Union minister Eduardo Faleiro, Fr Eremito said the forum was delighted with the response received from many quarters for the ongoing movement, and expressed confidence that the ongoing movement would succeed in forcing the government to scrap the Mopa airport.
“Our agitation is on the right track. We have received support from many quarters and the support continues to flow in,” Fr Eremito added.
