PONDA: Councillors of Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) have unanimously passed a resolution to print envelopes of the council with a message ‘Make Goa a Tobacco Free State.’
The resolution was passed during a special meeting convened on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day on Friday.
“Stickers with the same message will also be given to shopkeepers to be pasted in their commercial establishments,” PMC Chairperson Dr Radhika Naik told media persons after the meeting.
PMC also decided to make properties belonging to the municipal council tobacco-free areas and to conduct awareness drives.
“On World Tobacco Day, PMC support efforts of the State government to spread awareness on the ill effects of tobacco. Initially, we have decided to ban use of tobacco within PMC premises and other properties owned by PMC,” said Dr Naik.
“We will install a ‘No Tobacco Area’ signage and we will also conduct drives to sensitize people, she said.
