MARGAO: Dr Pravin Bhat, the first doctor in Goa to successfully administer the antibody cocktail to a COVID patient at the Horizon Hospital in Margao, said such therapy will prevent mortality in Goa.
Dr Bhat said the prevention of COVID deaths in Goa is their primary aim and welcomed the antibody cocktail administered to another COVID patient at the North Goa District Hospital.
Addressing the media persons, he said, “It is a great pride for him to announce that they used new antibody cocktail on a COVID positive patient who is doing well.”
“This antibody cocktail is a mixture of two antibodies which are basically from the laboratory. We get it readymade and it is prepared by hybrid technique. Once we administer this to the COVID patient, it is important that we need to use it earlier that is within the first 10 days. So that there are no complications,” he stated.
He claimed that death is avoided in such patients as it prevents the virus from multiplying.
“Yes, of course, the cost of the cocktail is a little bit higher, because this is an international brand and is made available by Roche India and Cipla. Some States have started using it,” said Dr Bhat.
He said it is very important to monitor the patients once the antibody cocktail is administered.
“We heard that another antibody cocktail has been administered at the government hospital in North Goa. It is a good initiative. Happy that the government is taking keen interest in such therapy and it will definitely prevent mortality in Goa,” he added.
Dr Balchandra Dessai of Horizon Hospital said they succeeded in the mission.
